Taking an innovative approach to Renaissance music, Cappella Pratensis is one of only a handful of professional ensembles in the world who perform directly from historical notation. Cappella Pratensis presents a Golden Mass for Ember Wednesday, which, during the Middle Ages, was performed early in the morning with the sanctuary awash in candlelight and timed to coincide with the rising of the sun. The group will use Guillaume Dufay's "Missa Ecce Ancilla Domini" as the mass setting interspersed with sections performed with Gregorian chant.
Sung without an intermission in the beautiful and resonant St. Joseph Cathedral, this promises to be an enlightening evening.
Pre-concert talk at 7:00.
