The Capital of Texas Postcard Club is planning to resume meeting together the last Tuesday of the month beginning this coming July 27th. Unless we notify you otherwise, we expect our new meeting venue to be available by that date: the Austin Gem & Mineral Society building, 6719 Burnet Lane, Austin 78757 – please note, Burnet Lane angles off of Burnet Road a short distance north of the intersection of 2222 and Burnet Rd. and intersects with Justin Lane just before connecting again to Burnet Rd. north of where the building is located. The meeting will be from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Refreshments will be potluck style - the Club will provide drinks and cups. Dealers and members are encouraged to bring any postcards that you would like to sell, trade, or show and tell. We suggest that masks be optional if vaccinated, mandatory if not vaccinated; expect that we can all be respectful of each other’s opinions and vulnerabilities.
Since we have not met for over a year, we are suspending this year’s tradition of taking a summer break and plan to meet monthly through next year when we can reassess meeting year around or resuming the summer break. We are planning to have our annual Club postcard show September 24th & 25th, 2021, and will be discussing this at the meeting.
Have just received word that Ken Wilson will be able to present the evening’s program, sharing with us his book “Snapshots and Short Notes – Images and Messages of Early Twentieth Century Photo Postcards” which is full of the most unique and interesting vignettes of life as portrayed on obscure postcards resurrected by Ken and deftly presented in his profusely illustrated and well researched volume. This will be a great presentation to inaugurate us getting back together again!
