The Seminar Goal:
The Capacity Building Seminar aims to support the implementation of new international sustainability disclosure standards (IFRS S1 and S2) in Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asian region. The main goal is to enhance the understanding of global developments in sustainability disclosures, climate related / biodiversity risks and prepare the business community for their effective implementation.
Background:
Global capital markets demand more consistent, comparable and verifiable information about companies’ exposure to, and management of, sustainability-related risks, particularly, climate / biodiversity risks, and opportunities, as well as about their related transition plans. Having this information will enable investors to make more informed decisions relating to providing resources to companies.
To meet this demand, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) issued its first two standards in June 2023: IFRS S 1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information and IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures. Both standards are effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2024. IFRS S1 outlines disclosure requirements for sustainability-related risks and opportunities, while IFRS S2 focuses on climate-related disclosures and complements IFRS S1.
The ISSB standards require companies to provide sustainability-related information alongside financial statements. The standards have been developed to be used in conjunction with any accounting requirements. They are also built on the concepts that underpin the IFRS accounting standards, which are required by more than 140 jurisdictions. The ISSB standards are suitable for application around the world, creating a truly global baseline.
With this Seminar the AIFC Green Finance Centre as the Regional Chapter of Green Investment Principles for BRI (GIP) in Central Asia, ACCA as a framework partner to the ISSB, the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), and OECD, as an international development institution, would like to support governments and businesses to understand and adopt the new international sustainability disclosure standards and practices.
The Capacity Building Seminar Objectives:
- Enhance understanding of global developments in sustainability disclosures.
- Provide a comprehensive overview and importance of ISSB standards.
- Share best practices of sustainability disclosure through case studies from other countries.
- Understanding climate related / biodiversity risks.
- Deliver an in-depth practical training on preparing sustainability reports focused on IFRS S1 and S2.
Enhance understanding of developing and disclosing of transition plans
