About this Event

THREE FEATURED WRITERS - MARK WALDRON, JENNIFER WONG & CHARLOTTE SHEVCHENKO KNIGHT - will dazzle us with their own work as well as poems they LOVE by poets they LOVE who've been OVERLOOKED and/or UNDERAPPRECIATED by the CANON as we know it.

Join us at The Social to celebrate the happening and the happened! Ring in the new and drink to the old! Discover new poets, discover new poems! Raise a toast to those we love the most!

There will be MUSIC from /WEIRDTODAY. There will be TWO SHORT OPEN MIC SLOTS - sign up on the door on the night.

Artist bios:

Mark Waldron:

Mark Waldron has published four poetry collections, his most recent, Sweet, like Rinky-Dink, with Bloodaxe Books in 2019. He was named a Next Generation Poet by the Poetry Book Society in 2014. In 2018 The Sunday Times listed him among the seven best poetry performers in the UK. He’s been published widely in newspapers and magazines in the UK and the US, and his work has been translated into Spanish, Romanian and Serbian.

Jennifer Wong:

Jennifer Wong is a poet and translator who was born and grew up in Hong Kong and now lives in the UK. Her collection, 回家 Letters Home, published by Nine Arches Press in 2020, was the Poetry Book Society Wild Card choice. She is also the author of Goldfish (Chameleon Press 2013) – which won the Hong Kong Arts Development Council Young Artist Award (Literary Arts) and a pamphlet, Diary of a Miu Miu Salesgirl (Bitter Melon Poetry 2019).

Charlotte Shevchenko Knight:

Charlotte Shevchenko Knight is a British-Ukrainian poet with a Masters from Goldsmiths University. She was recently commended in the National Poetry Competition, and forms part of the Poetry Translation Centre’s Undertow Eight. Her work centres on womanhood, Ukrainian history, and folklore. She has written pieces for bath magg, Poetry Birmingham, and Magma, amongst others. Her pamphlet, Ways of Healing, is published by The Poetry Business.

/weirdtoday:

/weirdtoday is a British-Polish electronic musician, drummer and sound designer who composes experimental scores for short films, theatre works and live performance. He's a member of fwrdmtn*, a London-based artistic house and his track, 'NOSTALGIA BALLOON ft. Avenhue & Latekid' was premiered by BBC Introducing East & WORDPLAY Magazine.
