About this Event
Covid disrupted our plan for a thorough safety orientation to our back room tools. We are now delighted to be able to provide this important safety orientation to our members. Class will cover general shop safety as well as specific safety and operation for each of the tools that can cause significant bodily harm: jointer/planer, table saw, miter saw, router table, band saw, lathe and drill press.
This class will enable us to have uniform expectations for safe operation of tools in our shared workshop. It is mandatory for all members who use the "back room" tools. It is recommended for those who are "second adults" as it will include instruction on how to shut off machinery in an emergency.
At the end of class, participants will be asked to demonstrate safe operation of each tool they wish to be certified to use. You can choose which tools you wish to be able to use.
This class is NOT an instructional "how to" class. It is focused on safety. If you have not yet learned to use a machine, further instruction will be necessary.
If you are an adult who works with a minor in the woodshop, you should take this class with the minor you supervise. No adult should supervise a minor on a tool that they themselves don't know how to use and use safely.
