About this Event
One of two opportunities in December to work on your calligraphic skills in community at Candlelit Scriptorium. With an emphasis on sign making, protest posters, messages for peace, and big poetic banners. Let’s join together to make large works on paper that we may use on display in our homes, windows, telephone polls, bridges … Experienced scribes preferred but beginners welcome. Please bring quotes, poems, or messages you’d like to transcribe calligraphically.
Our tradition is intertwined with zen and political activism, as well as an appreciation for beauty, tending to believe that less is more, that there is elegance in simplicity. Instruction, guidance, and many materials provided by Jade Novarino. Feel free to bring your own materials.
Alongside our scriptorium, Josephine LaCosta will be cooking a woodfired snack menu and Laura Bertram, of E&R Wine Shop, and a fellow scribe, will be pouring from a selection of wines inspired by medieval winters.
