Ecstatic dance is an invitation to move in whatever ways the music leads you, a space where there is no right or wrong way to dance, a place to explore being present. Doors open at 7. At 7:10 there will be an introduction to the practice of ecstatic dance, and the guidelines for the space. At 7:15 the doors will be closed to avoid interruptions, as we begin a short meditation that leads into 90 minutes of self guided, free-form dance without talking or distractions. With the help of a carefully curated playlist and an inviting, candlelit space you may experience a state of flow, a sense of creativity and playfulness, and a deep connection to your emotions and body. Afterwards, we'll have some time for discussion if anyone feels led to share.
Whether you're an avid dancer, or someone who only dances when no one is watching, this practice is for you.
The Guidelines
-No substances
-No talking or other audible distractions
-No photos or video, phones out of sight
-No judgement
-Respect for others' space, receive consent before dancing with someone
In a world of noise and busyness, the intention for this space is one free from distractions, where the experience can be meditative and internal. To that end, we dance silently to the music and focus on expression through movement alone.
