We have officially expanded the Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site Candlelight Walk to NINE nights - the first three weekends in October (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights). The annual event also will feature new hours with the historic village closing at 7:30PM each night. *Due to being closed normally on Sunday, the village and visitor center will open at 5:00PM. Fridays and Saturdays of the event, the village and visitor center will be open from 9:00AM to 7:30PM.
The walk features the historic village lit entirely by candle lanterns, with interpreters in period clothing stationed throughout log homes and shops. These interpreters offer insights into daily life in 19th-century Illinois.
Visitors will also be able to tour many candle-lit building interiors and are asked to keep flashlights off to maintain the setting’s authenticity.
Event is FREE. Donations accepted in the Visitor Center.
