Eastman professor, Chelsea Whitaker will be joining valley-native, soprano Hannah Moreno, who received her MM at Eastman and her BA in Music Performance at UTRGV. In collaboration with Mundo Arts Publications—a leader in preserving and sharing Latin-American repertoire—and under the guidance of musicologist Patricia Caicedo, Canciones de mi Tierra champions Latin-American and Spanish classical works that have been largely overlooked in the traditional canon.
By revitalizing these works, the recital fills a unique void in classical programming, allowing audiences to experience a rich musical heritage that deeply resonates with Hispanic and Latin-American communities.
This recital is especially meaningful in regions like the Rio Grande Valley, where community ties to Latin-American heritage run deep. The familiar themes and language foster an immediate, intimate connection, making the program both accessible and transformative for audiences of all backgrounds.
Additionally, featuring pieces from Twenty-Four Songs and Arias in Spanish, many of which are newly published and performed for the first time, positions Canciones de mi Tierra as both a cultural revelation and a trailblazing force in music programming.
