About this Event
This course will educate clinicians, who practice in overnight care settings, on best practices for patients on the cancer care continuum, with a heavy focus on oncologic diagnoses of the nervous system including primary and metastatic brain tumors. The course will discuss in detail sequelae of cancer and cancer treatments, how they relate to musculoskeletal impairments and in turn effect daily function. We will outline rehabilitation goals throughout the continuum of care from initial diagnosis through end of life. Special considerations for the oncologic patient in designing a rehab plan of care as well as precautions, contraindication and lab values for the oncologic patient included. The course will also contain a lab component with an opportunity to practice difficult conversations with patients and caregivers. Other topics, including but not limited to steroid myopathy, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, CAR-T cell therapy and acute considerations for head and neck cancers.
Asynchronous portion will be delivered in short video modules that will be in total duration of 180 minutes and will include the following content: Cancer Epidemiology, Tumor pathology, growth & histology, Disease diagnosis & staging, Disease treatment: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapies. To be viewed prior to synchronous course.
