‘Boom’ chronicles one of rock ‘n’ roll’s wildest and most influential bands: The Sonics. For the first time ever, all five original members explore how a relatively unknown band from the Pacific Northwest became a worldwide phenomenon 50-years later, shaping music for decades to come.

Featuring interviews with homegrown heroes and breakthrough artists alike, including Pearl Jam, The Sex Pistols, Heart, Mudhoney, and many, many more.

For anyone familiar with 60s rock and 60s garage rock, The Sonics are the motherlode; primal, raw, every one of their riffs has become someone else's entire album. Their classics (Strychnine, Cinderella, The Witch, Psycho) have been revived and become standard repertoire for dozens of bands and their revved up definitive take on Have Love Will Travel as used in a BMW TV and Land Rover commercials (and movie soundtracks) spurred on the band's revival.

This documentary took over 15 years to make and is a revelation!

Director Statement:

The Sonics represent more than just a band to me. They were my first obsession, rocking harder and faster than anything I’d heard. And they were from
the sixties! The music was dangerous Sexy. It was fucking hard. This was punk rock before punk rock. It made me want to steal a car, torch a Marlboro,
grab a girl, and cruise into the city. And I was only twelve.

The Sonics were also the turning point in my relationship with my father. Before discovering The Sonics, my father and I never really talked. He seemed
lame to me. By-the-book. Quiet. Kind of a nerd. The only CD he had in his busted pick-up was Dire Straits, and I fucking hated Dire straits. But after hearing
me blow the family speakers listening to the latest Pearl Jam album, he went to a used book store and found a dusty old copy of The Sonics’ BOOM. He left
it resting against my door. The first track is Cinderella and it was love at first listen. The guitars were crunchy and loud, Jerry sounded like he was
possessed by the Devil, and the drumming was primal. What the fuck was this? How the hell did my lame Dad know about The Sonics? This connection
over a band unearthed from the past would forever cement our bond as father and
son.

Many years later, The Sonics announced their first hometown reunion show and I flew up from LA to take my Dad to see them. That night, they played the
now legendary sold-out show at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. It was electric. The crowd was a vibe; the band was its frequency.

After a few strong drinks, I thought to myself: “I’m making a fucking movie about The Sonics”. When I woke up the next morning, I took my first steps up the mountain that became this documentary. It’s start-and-stop, flailing production would
mirror my broken career and, ultimately, my life. As I struggled to carve some path in the Hollywood sandbox only to end up practically homeless and
broke, I still defiantly told people: “I’m making a film about The Sonics”.

So here we are: Fifteen years later. And somehow, I stuck to my stupid word. It’s surreal to think that this never-ending passion project is finally making its
way out to the world. I’m humbled and honored to be in this position, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Who knows, maybe some parent out there will leave a copy of the Blu-ray against their kid’s door and the torch to this magical band will continue to burn. (Yeah – we’re making fucking a Blu-ray!).
