About this Event
This public event is part of an international conference " Addressing the Past – Shaping the Future: Memory politics in Europe and Canada". Indigenous scholars from across Canada address the questions on how Canadian society has commemorated its treatment of Indigenous Peoples and addressed its colonial legacy socially and politically. With the discovery of unmarked graves at former Residential Schools, the need to respond properly to this legacy has gained renewed urgency and led to a vigorous debate about what could be effective and legitimate paths towards reconciliation.
The event is followed by a reception co-funded by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Canada and the Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria. The conference is organized by the Europe Canada Network (EUCAnet) and the Jean Monnet Network "European Memory Politics", co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
