For over a decade CAN I KICK IT? (CIKI?) outdoor movie events presented by Shaolin Jazz have brought thousands of people together from the DC area and beyond to enjoy a unique fusion of cinema, hip hop and martial arts culture. This summer they’re bringing this award-winning experience East of the River for the first time ever for a 3-night series.
The series kicks off on Saturday, August 16 at Anacostia Park for a screening of the Marvel Comics film Captain America: Brave New World (PG-13), which was set here in Washington, DC. The evening will kick off with a guest DJ set at 7pm, followed by the movie at 8:30pm.
The event is free for all ages and will take place next to the Skate Pavilion in the Park. Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, and you are also welcome to bring food (just as long as you clean up after yourself)!
About CAN I KICK IT?
CIKI? is a unique film experience presented by Shaolin Jazz that caters to lovers of action flicks, music and everything else in between. At each event cult-classic and contemporary martial arts/action films are scored live (scene-by-scene) with a blend of Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock and more mixed by DJ 2-Tone Jones. Since 2013 over 150 different film titles have been screened at CIKI? events that have taken place at notable institutions, venues and festivals across the map including the Lincoln Center (NY), the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Smithsonian National Gallery of Art, SXSW Festival (Austin), Oakland Museum of California, Toronto Comic Arts Festival, FanX Salt Lake Comic Con and more.
