The Downtown Austin Alliance presents a whole new outdoor movie experience in Republic Square. They are teaming up with the creators of Shaolin Jazz to present the first-ever CAN I KICK IT? Downtown Austin Movie Series.
At each event movies will be scored live (scene-by-scene) with a blend of Hip Hop, Soul, Rock and more mixed by DJ 2-Tone Jones. The result is a live, remixed soundtrack to the movies using music to complement the dialogue and story line while also incorporating special DJ techniques to accentuate elements in different scenes.
On Friday, September 27 come enjoy a screening of one of the biggest superhero movies Black Panther (PG-13), starring an incredible cast led by the late Chadwick Boseman. In the film T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past.
The events are free for all ages and open to the public. Each night the festivities will kick off at 7pm with an opening DJ set, followed by the film shortly after 8pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks and other amenities will be on site.
