Cam's Club 5K

Lisa Pappas is a local advocate for mental health and suicide awareness in the Spartanburg community, serving as an active board member for both the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Lisa's impactful involvement at both local and national levels has inspired the members of Kappa Delta.

Tragically, Lisa lost her son, Cameron, to suicide in 2015. Since then, she has dedicated her time and energy to advocacy work at both local and national levels. Lisa plays a key role in organizing the annual "Out of Darkness Walk" in Spartanburg—an event that provides individuals with an opportunity to share their connections to suicide prevention while honoring those they've lost. This past year, 30 members of Kappa Delta walked in support of Pappas and in honor of Cameron, as well as others lost to suicide.

The members of Kappa Delta have been deeply moved by Pappas' story and the impact of the "Out of Darkness Walk." In light of this, we are eager to host the first annual “Cam’s Club” at Wofford College on Sunday, April 28th from 3-6pm to honor Cameron and express our gratitude to Lisa. During his time at Wofford, Cameron was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and both Kappa Delta and Sigma Alpha Epsilon will be co-hosting this event to honor Cameron and raise mental health awareness.

70% of the proceeds from "Cam's Club" will be used to create the Cameron Pappas’ Mental Health Fund. The fund will be support and expand mental health resources on Wofford’s campus. The remaining 30% of funds raised will be donated to NAMI Spartanburg. NAMI provides support, education, and advocacy for those living with mental illness. 100% of donations to NAMI Spartanburg stay in the county to support those struggling with their mental illness.
