About this Event
This fall will likely bring unprecedented threats and tension to our campuses as we face a deeply divided national election and ongoing world conflicts. Are you ready to assess and respond to those threats and keep your community safe?
This two-day workshop will provide you with the practical advice you need. These skills are useful for any interviewing and assessment setting, including student conduct, campus safety, Title IX, counseling, case management, and BIT/CARE work.
Day one will focus on trauma-informed intake and interviewing skills with a disability and culturally informed approach. Day two will look at violence risk and threat assessment.
Your instructor, Dr. Brian Van Brunt, has authored over a dozen books on the topic of violence risk and threat assessment and has been an invited plenary speaker to the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and the Canadian Association of Threat Assessment Professionals CATAP). Brian was a major contributing author of the NABITA Risk Rubric and the creator of the SIVRA-35 Assessment Tool, the Violence Risk Assessment of the Written Word (VRAWW), the Non-Clinical Assessment of Suicide Tool (NAS), the Incel Indoctrination Rubric (IIR), and the Extremist Risk Intervention Scale (ERIS). Along with Bethany Smith, he has developed the Pathways Triage System and the DarkFox Violence Risk and Threat Assessment System, which is also currently licensed to ICS as a tool for making Title IX interim separation decisions.
