About this Event

The BLM Anchorage Field Office is hosting a free firewood pick-up event on designated areas within Campbell Tract. This event will be held June 15th – 16th. Registration via EventBrite is required in order to attend. Please select an appropriate timeslot and show up on time. We are allowing one timeslot per household. You will only be allowed to collect firewood during your designated timeslot.

Firewood has already been felled and limbed as part of the Hazard Tree Removal project funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This project removed trees killed by spruce beetles within Campbell Tract in order to reduce hazardous fuel loading and increase safety for recreators with the added benefit of providing fuelwood to Alaskans at no cost.

This wood comes from trees that have been killed by spruce beetles on Campbell Tract. These trees have been dead long enough that they are no longer attractive host material for spruce beetles and any spruce beetles that may have used the tree have completed their life cycle and left.  However, it’s possible that a small number of the trees are recently dead and may still harbor spruce beetle life stages. The BLM is not liable for any resulting beetle damage to trees on personal property.

This permit does NOT allow for the felling of additional trees. Your permit will allow for 2 hours to collect up to 2 cords of wood from designated areas (see attached map). Wood availability is limited, and we cannot guarantee wood availability at any given time. By registering for this event, you are agreeing to the stipulations found in the Free Use Permit (Standard Form 5510-1) as summarized below. At the start of your schedule time, you will be required to sign the Free Use Permit and review stipulations. If you would like to review the Free Use Permit form prior to event date, please contact the Anchorage Field Office by calling (907) 267-1246 or emailing us at [email protected].

Please keep in mind that you are responsible for bringing your own equipment and cutting and loading your own wood. The hazard tree removal project is a multi-year project. There may be more wood availability at a future time.
