About this Event
Celebrate UN Day of the Girl with us! This year, 2022, marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nation’s International Day of the Girl (IDG). At select Camp United Nations for Girls sessions we will celebrate ‘Day of the Girl’ and explore this year’s theme Minding the Gap in Girls' Rights - “Our time is now – our rights, our future.” The themed exercise includes a discussion of the status of girls’ rights globally, the progress made on girls’ rights to date and ways girls can continue working to secure their rights.
Camp United Nations for Girls NYC 2022 introduces girls, ages 11-16, to work of the United Nations and international policy. Camp United Nations begins with a lesson on the history of the United Nations and the organization’s purpose. This is followed by a study of the structure, leadership, and the rules of procedure of the United Nations. Each student will be given an assignment to serve as a delegate for a UN Member State. When the General Assembly convenes delegates will propose a resolution. The resolution will be subject to negotiation and amendment by the UN Delegates before a vote on a final version of the resolution. Girl Scouts and Girl Guides earn a Global Action Award or World Thinking badge for participating in Virtual Camp United Nations for Girls.
