The Center for Contemporary Art and Culture at the Pacific Northwest College of Art is proud to present SLAY THE GOBLIN!!!, a solo exhibition by Queens, NY - based artist Cameron Granger. Using the framework of fictional roleplaying games as a tool to analyze contemporary culture, SLAY THE GOBLIN!!! features works ranging in media, including video, serigraphs, installation, and a community gaming room.
Drawing parallels between the humanlike goblin archetype present in many fantasy roleplaying video games and messaging from news sources, popular media, and government agencies at home and abroad, Granger cuts to the quick of the insidious presence of othering in our increasingly militarized cultural environment. From the viewpoint of a newly appointed Kingsguard in an imagined unnamed kingdom, visitors to the exhibition experience colonization through the eyes of the soldier.
Transcending genres and subcultures, Cameron Granger’s SLAY THE GOBLIN!!! combines gaming culture and social critique in a paradoxical and timely presentation that helps us better understand prevailing narratives of American racial injustice, xenophobia, and genocide.
We invite the public to join us for the opening reception on Thursday, November 6th from 5 - 8pm in conjunction with the Pear District’s First Thursday festivities.
