About this Event
In the Northern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice marks the start of winter; it is the longest night and shortest day of the year. It is both a time of rest and renewal, when we allow ourselves to be held in the womb of darkness as the light emerges.
To mark this pivotal moment in the year, we are creating a camera obscura for the community. Camera obscura literally means "dark box." For this event, a room will be completely darkened except for one small pinhole on an exterior window. As we sit in the darkness, we will be led through a guided yoga nidra meditation, creating a sense of ease within and among all those gathered. As the meditation concludes and our eyes adjust to the darkened room, the world outside will gradually be projected inside the room around us.
In this space, we acknowledge the sacred balance between darkness and the light and the goodness experienced in both.
