We want to bring a high-quality Flamenco experience to Cambridge, putting together presentations from renown performers gathered from different parts of the country. It will be a beautiful family day out., We are also expecting to attract all the followers of this type of musical expression and all the Spanish culture lovers, as well as the curious families who want to enjoy a unique day with cultural fun. We aim to build bridges between this particular part of the Spanish culture (well known for its strong levels of passion and powerful self-expression through intricate techniques) and other cultures, using this ancient art form, considered as “World Heritage Treasure”. by Unesco.
Spain is the antipode of NZ. Connecting with the Spanish culture means embracing the whole Earth.
Flamenco is an ancient art with deep historical roots that date from as far as the XVth Century.
While Flamenco is mostly practiced in Spain, the frontiers go way beyond this Mediterranean country. It is not like other traditional music and dance, it is a soulful medicine enjoyed by people from all over the world. In fact, it´s origins drank from many different cultures. It is a perfect example of a nomad art form, just like the itinerant Gipsies themselves. “Los Gitanos” are the ones that have elevated Flamenco to its highest form. Singing a deep expression of simple life subjects, surviving, connecting. Language becomes invisible, you will be able to understand the feelings and share the passion no matter the words in it.
We invite you all to be a part of a magic day and be transported to March and April in Spain. We will be transforming the Cambridge Town Hall into a Feria. This has never been seen in this part of New Zealand.
The day will end with a jam session for anyone wanting to join in with their instruments or some prided like a Flamenco cajon or castanets. Any brave singers can join in as well, following the style of music.
You can’t miss this.
