We are excited to announce that our cultural arts program is back and we are ready to accept new students for the fall season! Registration will only occur on the first day of class.
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed students who are eager to learn about their Cambodian culture.
Selepak Khmer Angkor was created back in August 2010 to help bridge the connection between the old and new generation. For the past 12 years, we have provided opportunities for the youth to get involved with learning and promoting the Khmer culture.
Our classes are every Sunday from 10:00 A.M.-2:30 P.M. at the Cambodian Buddhist Temple of Dallas.
Lunch is at 12:00PM and is always potluck style, so please bring your favorite dish to share!
We just recently built a studio so that the students have a proper space to learn in! We accept female/male students ages 5 and up, including young adults to adults. We teach students classical and contemporary repertoire which they showcase every year at two major recitals, and other events.
There are also opportunities to showcase traditional Khmer martial arts, Bokator, at our recitals. However this program is not always available, and those who wish to participate is required to participate in the dance program as well. For the time being, we are focusing to re-build the dance program. When the opportunity arises, we will introduce the traditional martial arts back into the curriculum.
Disclaimer: We are a cultural group created by the temple. We will represent the temple at multicultural events, as well as participate/volunteer in the Buddhist ceremonies the temple holds throughout the year.
