About this Event

Meeting point: In front of St. Giles Church, Camberwell Church St, London SE5 8RB

Ending point: SE5 Forum Market Stall at the Camberwell Green Saturday Market, SE5 7AF

Camberwell is full of wonderful green spaces and biodiverse pockets of nature. Thanks to our community’s care, we now have a growing network of gardens, planters, and micro-habitats that support pollinators, improve air quality, and bring colour to our streets.

Which location has the most butterflies? We’d love to find out together.

This will be a safari event: three local green spaces, spending 15 minutes counting butterflies in each one. Meet us at St. Giles Church at 10:30, where you’ll receive all the materials and information you need to take part.

To make the morning even sweeter, at the finish we’ll have cupcakes for all participants at the end, and everyone who joins the count will be entered into a prize draw to win a butterfly-themed T-shirt or mug.

Accessibility and Participation

  • This is a free, family-friendly activity
  • Under-16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult
  • Please download the Big Butterfly Count App before, or you can do it on the day. There will be some paper based observation forms, if needed.

  • The planned route is generally wheelchair accessible, though participants may choose counting spots slightly off the tarmac paths
  • Any updates about the event will be sent to the email used for your Eventbrite booking
  • We love sharing photos and short video clips from community events. If you prefer not to appear in these, please let the organisers know on the day.
  • If it’s pouring with rain, butterflies are unlikely to be active. In that case, we may need to cancel or postpone the event and apologise in advance. We will advise using the email given in your Eventbrite booking
  • If it’s hot which is much more likely, don’t forget a sunhat and suncream, and water
  • Along the route, there should be toilets open at the Camberwell Green library
