The Chinese American Lawyers of the Bay Area (CALOBA) and Innovative Legal Services (ILS) are excited to host a dynamic panel discussion exploring significant developments in AI regulation. Designed for in-house counsels, lawyers, and business leaders, this event offers essential insights into how businesses are adapting to the challenges posed by the rapidly changing landscape of technology and law. Light dinner will be served.

Speaker Introduction

Helen Li is an Associate Director of Patents at Intel Inc. Dr. Li develops and manages the patent portfolio of AI innovations at Intel. Prior to Intel, she was a patent attorney at Fenwick & West LLP. Dr. Li has a PhD in computer engineering and a JD, both from Santa Clara University. She was also a guest lecturer at Santa Clara University School of Law on the challenges of IP protection of AI.

Florence G'Sell is a professor of private law at the University of Lorraine and leads the Digital, Governance, and Sovereignty Chair at Sciences Po. She is currently a visiting professor in the program on the Governance of Emerging Technologies, at the Stanford Cyber Policy Center. Prof. G’sell has been working on digital law and in particular on issues related to the regulation of online platforms, the way law can deal with new technologies (e.g., Blockchain, Metaverse), the notion of digital sovereignty and, more generally, digital policies in the EU and the US.

Parker Zhang is the Legal Director of Baidu USA. Paker is a long-term CALOBA member and volunteer. Parker started his legal career as a patent attorney at Fenwick & West LLP, and joined HP as an IP counsel in 2011. Later that year, Parker moved to Beijing to join Baidu to start its IP department and later moved back to the US to work as the regional legal director for Baidu's operation in the Americas. Parker received his Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences from Peking University, a Master in Computer Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Fiona Xu is a partner at Innovative Legal Services, where her practice focuses on regulatory compliance across different sectors, with a focus on sector-specific regulations for artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and medical devices. She supports multinational corporations in establishing and maintaining U.S. operations, and managing legal and compliance challenges in various areas such as Privacy, Export Control, and CFIUS issues.
