About this Event

Running our own businesses enables us to have more freedom and creativity but it can also be a lonely and challenging space. With the pressure to be more green coming from legislation, market forces and our customers, it can be difficult to know how to start or how to do more, especially when there’s already so much to juggle.

Join us for a special evening especially for female-business owners and their supporters during York Environment Week.

We’ll be joined by two guest speakers: Alice Maynard of The Outside In, plant studio on Holgate Road, and Laura Johnson of Dogobees, Eco-Hairdressers on Bootham. Further guests to be confirmed. Hosting the event is Sophia Cheng of With Many Roots, who delivers climate educational workshops to organisations.

They’ll be sharing their stories towards making their businesses green, the wins, the struggles as well as the lessons they’ve learned along the way. And then we’ll shift the focus to the rest of the room;

  • What steps are you making towards a greener business?
  • What prevents you from taking action?
  • What do you need?
  • And how can we help each other?

If you’re curious, come and join us for an informal evening of non-judgement, compassionate and hopeful conversation over a few drinks. Let’s lift each other up.

There will be networking opportunities to build connections. A recent report from University of York, “New Era for Female Entrepreneurs by University of York” highlighted the potential of female entrepreneurs calling for more support and networking.

Venue kindly provided by Micklegate Social, a fellow-female business owner.

What We Do

The aim of YorkCliConnect is to support and strengthen the community that understands, communicates and takes action on the Climate and Nature Emergencies we are all facing.

By connecting people, projects and organisations in York we facilitate the sharing of knowledge and resources, reduce duplication of effort, support and encourage one another, and grow our community.

Who We Are

The York CliConnect project began in April 2023 as a collaboration between three climate and nature educators – Abi, Sophia and Lynda – with invaluable admin support from Maddie and funding from the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI).

After an encouraging first phase, and now as a YESI-supported network, we are looking for the best ways to provide educational and collaboration opportunities for our community.

YorkCliConnect is helping build York Resilience Web.
