About this Event
This fun, relaxing class is perfect for beginners looking to learn the art of calligraphy through brush lettering! You will learn how to create beautiful letterforms with a brush pen, developing skills in calligraphy and modern brush lettering styles.
In this class, you will learn:
- Drills to practice the movements needed for brush lettering
- Basic brush strokes used to create thick and thin lines
- Brush lettering terminology and the anatomy of letterforms
- How to connect letters to form words and phrases
- Techniques for varying the style and size of lettering
By the end of this relaxing and rewarding class, you'll be able to create beautiful lettering pieces to use for cards, gift tags, decor pieces, and more.
Supplies needed: None! As part of the class, each student will receive a short guide of letters & strokes, several types of brush pens, tracing paper, and different types of colored paper to try out your newfound skill!
About Michelle:
Michelle Chu has been practicing the art of calligraphy for nearly a decade. She first purchased an ink & nib set from Barnes & Noble in 2013, moved to calligraphy soon after and hasn't looked back since! Michelle was an active member of the Austin, TX Calligraphy Guild prior to relocating to the Bay Area, as well as an attendee of the annual International Penmanship Conference for multiple years. Well versed in many types of scripts, she loves teaching to increase appreciation of this art form to more people and is excited to pass on her experience to others.
