These sessions are demonstrations or talks that are informal and provide visitors with a chance to watch the artists at work and ask questions. Please remember they are in no way a prepared tutorial or lesson and the artists are participating on a voluntary basis.
Calligraphy is one of the oldest, continuous art forms around. Since humans started written records with recognisable characters, scribes have been producing beautiful art works with pictograms, symbols and letters. The Calligraphy Society of South Australia has continued this tradition for nearly 40 years.
As a group they explore and celebrate the ages and styles of calligraphy through technical inspections of the letters and 'hands', and the development of classical and modern art works embodying letter forms.
The group meet regularly to discuss and workshop all aspects of beautiful letters. They learn from each other and from national and international artists, including most recently the virtual world. Through their work they explore styles of calligraphy to discover individual passions and develop these in their historical and contemporary contexts.
They celebrate their achievements as a group and support each other on personal letter arts journeys. Inkspirations offers a snapshot of members’ passions and journeys through the world of calligraphy. Artists use a range of media, including ink, paint, pencil and precious metal, which include many varied techniques from the traditional to the experimental.
