If you’re a fan of the hit series and you’ve been wondering where Call the Midwife is filmed, put yourself in the picture and explore where the real drama happens with a Call the Midwife Official Location Tour at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
Walk in the footsteps of Nurse Trixie Franklin, Sister Julienne and Dr Turner and explore where the real drama happens. The walking tour is led by your very own costumed midwife. Along the tour you’ll recognise the cobbled streets and buildings of ‘Poplar’ plus iconic locations such as the Grosvenor Hotel and ‘Chummy’s Hill’, where Nurse Noakes famously learnt to ride her bike.
With a picture book to help trigger your memories, you’ll see just how Neal Street Productions transform 400 year old Chatham dockyard into to East London. The tour culminates with our exclusive Call the Midwife exhibition containing set, props and costumes.
On the day you can also book a free ‘tour’ of the landed submarine, a walk through tour with questions at the end. Suitable for able/limber bodied people only, low ceiling height and small holes to climb through! Amazing to see the insides though. Also, we were free to explore the boat that is moored there, this appears in Call the Midwife a few times. I assume the submarine and boat will be available to see again when we go 😊 The Call the Midwife Tour itself is an hour, you will have lots of other things to explore whilst you’re there! A fantastic day out for everyone, the dockyard has a lot of history and so much to see!
The food was rather tasty too! You can just order food there but book in advance and it’s a little bit cheaper. Plus you don’t need to wait in the queue, they just bring the food over. I’ll keep a list just in case you forget what you ordered! We had fish and chips and were very tasty!
