About this Event
The Calgary Municipal Building—the wedge-shaped, blue-coloured "new" City Hall—opened officially on October 18, 1985. Before construction began in 1982, this three-acre site had been a longtime hub of commerce and human activity. On this landmark's 40th anniversary, join historian Harry Sanders for a look back at the buildings, businesses, and personalities of this site from the 1880s to the 1980s.
Harry Sanders is a Calgary-based historical consultant and freelance writer. He was the city's first historian laureate in 2012–13, and he appeared weekly on CBC Radio in 2006–09 as "Harry the Historian."
Harry is also the editor of Alberta History, the quarterly journal of the Historical Society of Alberta.
