CCO's energetic and commanding conductor Bang Zhang. Bang Zhang graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, under the mentorship of Xia Xiao-tang. In 2013, he became the assistant conductor of the distinguished conductor, Linlin Wang. At such a young age, Bang has worked with and conducted more than 20 professional orchestras and choirs, including China National Traditional Orchestra, Guangdong National Orchestra of China, China Youth Symphony Orchestra, China Ruan Chamber Ensemble, Central Conservatory of Music Wind Band, and Renmin University Symphony Orchestra. Guest percussionist, Malcolm Lim, joining our concert once again! Malcolm is the Acting Principal Percussionist of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and an percussion instructor at the Mount Royal University Conservatory of Music. He is currently the musical director of the Calysto Steelband and was the musical director of the Afro-Brazilian dance and drum ensemble, Calgary Escola de Samba from 2002 to 2012. Malcolm has taught courses at the University of Lethbridge, led master classes at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and worked as a creativity facilitator at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. He has published in Percussive Notes, the journal for the Percussive Arts Society, and his compositions, “Two South Indian – American Rudimental Solos”, will be published by Bachovich Music Publications.
