About this Event
Join OSBC Board Member Paul Miller for a bird walk in his local patch. The Calf Pasture section of the Quonset bike path has several distinct habitats which provide the opportunity to see a pretty good variety of bird species along the bike path and adjacent trails: grassland/meadow, mixed forest, forested wetland, conifer forest, maritime shrubland, saltwater cove, beach/ocean, and fresh & saltwater marshes. These habitats provide a nice diversity of bird species, especially in mid-May, the height of spring migration. We’ll get our steps in as the round-trip from the parking area to the beach will be around three miles. Birders are welcome to join in on as much of the walk as they want to-no obligation to do it all. Bring what you need to enjoy the excursion: Binoculars, camera, water, snacks, bug-spray, etc. The walk will be weather dependent and registered participants will be notified the night before via email if it is cancelled.

The Quonset bike path at Calf Pasture is paved and easy walking. There is a section of trail off of the bike path that we’ll take through the woods to the beach which isn't paved, and birders may need to navigate roots, mud, sand, etc. along this section of the walk. No need for hiking boots, but good trails shoes should be used. There is an outhouse at the parking area.
