About this Event
Join us at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles for a screening of three student-directed short films, the culmination of the Spring 2025 semester of the innovative California State Los Angeles course Community Impact Media. These short documentary films spotlight the transformative work of Contra Tiempo, Able ARTS Work, and Inner-City Arts—organizations dedicated to expanding access to art and fostering community engagement.
This semester’s focus was inspired by the exhibition ‘George Rouy. The Bleed, Part II’ at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles. George Rouy has emerged as a leading figure among his generation of painters, giving form to a distinctive dynamism that characterizes key experiences of contemporary life. His paintings explore human mass, multiplicity and movement, reflecting the tensions between individuals and their environments, as well as the conflicts and harmonies among individuals and groups.
Through their short documentaries, this semester’s student filmmakers will examine themes of identity, performance, movement and the body, responding to the themes of Rouy’s exhibition.
This event is free to attend and open to the public, however, due to limited seating, reservations are recommended.
About Community Impact Media
Community Impact Media, a shared project between the university and the gallery, provides neighboring youth with hands-on media making and storytelling mentorship toward the production of video projects written and directed by the student filmmakers. It not only encourages students to reimagine the role of filmmakers as neighbors and citizens committed to meaningful social change but also illustrates each organization’s commitment to engage and develop a positive, lasting relationship with their shared LA community.
