The Cal Poly Music Department will present its 2026 Bach Week from Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 22-24. The Jan. 23 and 24 concerts will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo:
• 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23: Tesserae Baroque, a period instrument ensemble, will present the West Coast premiere of “Meera Kahe,” a cantata by Reena Esmail, with Ravindra Deo, tabla, and Hindustani vocalist Saili Oak. The work that sets the iconic Hindi texts of 16th-century Indian saint-poet Mirabai, will be coupled with music of the French Baroque including works by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and François Couperin.
• 2 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24: there will be two performances of the “Oratorio” finale concerts. Members of Cal Poly’s Chamber Choir, Symphony and faculty will join with guest artists to perform J. S. Bach’s "Christmas Oratorio" (Part 1) and George Frederic Handel’s monumental “Israel in Egypt.”
The events are sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts, Music Department and Instructionally Related Activities program. Additional support is provided by the Handler and Steiner Family Fund. For more information, visit the Bach Week website, bachweek.calpoly.edu
