About this Event
Join CAL FIRE, Nevada County Resource Conservation District, and Nevada County Office of Emergency Services on November 15-16th from 8:00am to 5:00pm for a training geared toward Qualified Entities* in Placer, Yuba, and Nevada Counties.
CAL FIRE has launched two new defensible space programs in response to California's catastrophic wildfires. The Model Defensible Space Program is an inspection platform made available for use by a city, county, or city and county that are interested in establishing their own defensible space program. By establishing their own program, a city for example, can extend services to assist homeowners with meeting the requirements of California Civil Code 1102.19, real estate defensible space inspections. Currently, a CAL FIRE Defensible Space Inspector handles the needed inspections for homes in the SRA. Once the LRA Fire Hazard Severity Zones remap is completed and released, some local agencies with High and Very High zones in their jurisdiction may find their staff needing to complete inspections that are not CAL FIRE's statutory responsibility.
The Qualified Entities program is a way to bring consistency to many of the different Hazard Assessment programs (Not CAL FIRE Defensible Space Inspections) that are occurring throughout California. At the end of the training, participants will receive an email with their certificate. This will allow the participants to conduct defensible space assessments. Assessments are designed to educate the property owner on ways to reduce the chances of the structure igniting during a wildland fire.
