Combining Africa Day and the International Day of the African Child celebrations, the Cairns African Festival 2022 moves outdoors to FOGARTY PARK at the Esplanade.
With FREE AFRICAN DRUM WORKSHOPS, African craft and charity stalls, African food stalls, a Fashion Parade and an array of talented local and interstate performers, the CAIRNS AFRICAN FESTIVAL is the biggest African cultural event in the region.
Due to the unfortunate COVID restrictions of 2021, hundreds missed the Festival, so we've brought back the headlining acts from last year:-
Jack Manasi and the Afro Kick Band - An 8 piece Congolese Soukous Band with infectious guitar grooves based out of Brisbane.
Epizo Bangoura - A multitalented award winning virtuoso of the Djembe (African drum) and other traditional instruments of his homeland Guinea, West Africa. Epizo will be accompanied by his brother, Sibo Bangoura, another amazing multi-instrumentalist.
The talented spread of Local African Performers will be announced here, as they are finalised.
These will include various community groups, performing dances and songs of Africa.
FREE CHILDRENS DRUM WORKSHOPS will be held in the week leading up to the festival. Children who participate may perform at the Festival with Epizo.
2 FREE ADULT DRUM WORKSHOPS will take place at Fogarty Park on the morning of the Festival, from 9:00am.
Please see the FREE DRUM WORKSHOP EVENT Facebook page for further workshop details and registration.
