Let our Managing Artistic Director, Jacobo Lovo, guide you on a gallery tour and discussion surrounding our first exhibit of our Fall 2025 Season, Palimpsests + Memories: The Student to The Teacher, by Celeste Contreras Skierski. Enjoy learning more about the art, the inspiration and symbolism behind it, and the unique techniques utilized in each exhibition featured in the Latino Arts Gallery! The artist will be on-hand to answer any questions about her exhibit!

Palimpsests + Memories: The Student to The Teacher
This evocative exhibition honors the teachers who shape lives one day at a time. Now a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Celeste Contreras Skierski channels the hope, wisdom, and guidance she once received into her own teaching practice.
The show opens with a series of delicate pencil and ink portraits from her high school years, tracing three decades of personal growth, travel, and educational experiences. These works are layered with themes of ancestral memory and healing, reflecting Contreras’s journey as a Wisconsin-based artist.
The collection is diverse and immersive, featuring an artist’s book library, works on paper, intricate drawings, and evocative film, all weaving together stories of transformation, legacy, and the enduring bond between student and teacher.
