In the Anthropocene, who dictates what a city is, and how it benefits its residents?
About this Event

Where does the city start — and where does it end? What kind of cities do we want to live in? And what do we believe is important for a better life? Join us on Thursday 13 October 2022 for an evening exploring how cities can feel better for more people.

Sitting amid our The Ideal City 2040 exhibition, we’ll share the story and mission of the The Ideal City book, which reimagines the cities of tomorrow through inspiring solutions.

This will be followed by a screening of Where is the City, a short film by Canadian director Kurtis Chen. Questioning the scope of cities and their limits in the Anthropocene, Chen interviews economists, scientists, town planners, and architects in an attempt to uncover humanity’s most consequential achievement.

About the filmmaker

is a Toronto-based filmmaker, designer, and urbanist. His work examines the intersectional relationship of ecology, technology, and society in the built environment, especially as it relates to the climate crisis and equity. Kurtis hopes to use film as a tool to explore and communicate the breadth of urban issues while advocating for cooperative, interdisciplinary problem solving.

About CAFx + SPACE10: Sense of Place

What creates a place depends on countless factors, both tangible and intangible: from the aesthetic effects of bricks, to the individual and collective memories embedded in city walls. From feelings of home in the house and neighbourhood, to the ideological discourses that influence the community, nation, and planet.

With this year’s theme Sense of Place, Copenhagen Architecture Festival explores the transition where physical space becomes ‘place’ and the built becomes more than mere construction.

Set alongside our exhibition The Ideal City 2040 in SPACE10 Gallery, our joint CAFx + SPACE10 program shares films and dialogues exploring the complex relationships between spatial structures and experiences, feelings of home, and manifestations of place amid movement and migration.
