“Off the Cuff” opens with the passionate virtuoso Ballade for cello and piano by the Black English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, performed by Kostov and Sykes. Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel is represented with the first CPMF performance of her masterful Piano Trio in D minor—a work that can easily stand beside the better-known trios of her brother Felix. The second half of this program opens with the jazzy, exciting, adrenaline-charged Concerto for piano trio and percussion by the Asian-American composer Kenji Bunch. The program concludes with something not to be missed: Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story arranged for two pianos and two percussionists. Come hear these beloved tunes like you’ve never heard them before!
