Daring, dark, and deliriously entertaining, “Cabaret” is a musical that holds a mirror to us all at the Racine Theatre Guild Friday, May 17 - Sunday, June 2.In 1929 Berlin, the vibrant, fantastical world of the Kit Kat Klub is an escape from the grim reality creeping in outside of its walls. Cliff Bradshaw, an American writer, has arrived in town and is swept up by the club and the one-and-only Sally Bowles. He finds a room at Fräulein Schneider’s guest house, a haven for free-spirited singles, and as the year unfolds, the beautiful façade cracks as an evil power grows. Will love, loyalty, and humanity have a chance?
First created in 1966, the musical has been adapted several times, including the 1972 movie starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey. RTG will produce the 1998 Broadway revival version, which includes memorable songs like “Willkommen,” “Mein Herr,” “Two Ladies,” and “Maybe This Time.”
