BYO Tie-dye Workshop + Happy Accidents

Learn hand-dying tricks of the trade from Merle Works owner and master dyer Dallas Hlatky as she turns her studio over to you and your projects. Merle Works hand-dyed goods are sold at fine independent boutiques across the US and Europe.

Bring about 3-5 items from your wardrobe or home made of natural fibers and natural fiber blends (at least 50% cotton silk wool linen viscose rayon bamboo). It's a great opportunity to breathe new life and color into old items or sentimental pieces that have seen better days. You'll dye a pair of Merle Works's signature socks as a warm up plus you'll be given a tea towel and shown how to use it to create a beautiful "happy accident."

The workshop will begin with an overview of materials and techniques followed by a demonstration. Each participant will have free reign to experiment with colors and patterns as they see fit. The full spectrum of the professional dye studio will be available including mixed dyes powders color swatches and different tools and brushes. Questions will be answered and hands-on help is available.

An email will go out to each participant a few days before the event. If you have any specific inspiration you are looking to replicate a certain technique you would like to try (ice dye reverse/bleach dye) or a large format item you are planning on bringing (curtains sheets) you can reply to Dallas with this info so she can prepare the appropriate set up and materials for you.

Gloves will be provided. Participants are advised to bring aprons and/or wear low-stakes clothes (dye splatter happens). Guests will leave the workshop with their hand-dyed items in sealed ziplock bags or other containers (in the case of larger items) and instructions for laundering at home.

This workshop is appropriate for adults and kids 7 and up. BYO refreshments if you like! Adults please drink responsibly. ; )
