North Carolina Rockers
By George
In the North Carolina summer of 2016, guitarists and vocalists Henry Moldenhauer and Tyler Ford began writing and playing music in the Charlotte area, eventually finding local success touring to support the release of two alternative rock EPs. After establishing a foundation, they then formed the band “By George” and began piecing together bits of music and shared experience. This effort would become actualized in a concept album, appropriately dubbed “The Life of Guy”.
Set to be released in late-2021, the band tells a story about the post-millennial journey from birth to death of a man balancing relatable struggles with purpose and ever elusive identity. While Guy advances on his journey, he clings to the fleeting “bright lights, wide eyes, and white lies” of his youth, eventually realizing and accepting that nothing “lasts forever”. Combining exciting and fast paced tracks like “Klep” and “Sinking” with the rich melodies of “Summer Song” and “Handsome Hobo,” the album draws from a variety of genres, but carves an exciting new path in modern rock.

Dropping Plates
Dropping Plates is a 4-piece indie-groove-rock band out of Boone, NC. Hailing from various music backgrounds and from all over the state, the group came together in October of 2020 on the campus of Appalachian State University. Vocalists and guitarists Ben Burrows and Jake Fain come from Winston-Salem where they each performed with their previous bands. Bassist Aaron Huntley, of Raleigh, has played music his whole life and studies guitar, while drummer Forrest Britt, from Wilmington, is in the violin studio. As luck would have it, their unique musical tastes and experiences all came together to create Dropping Plates.
Amidst a pandemic, the band came together to write, record, and release their first album Family Dinner in February of 2021. Since, they have gained traction in the Boone scene and are gathering attention in papers, blogs, podcasts, and social media. They have been described as “an ambitious band that merges together indie rock, funk, groove, jam, and jazz genres” with a distinct sound “full of exciting riffs, licks and feels to showcase their musicianship, which empowers the rhythmic and melodic structure of the songs with a remarkable talent of merging genres from indie, jazz improvisation and funk guitars.”
