The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) invite you to join workshop participants and members of the consensus committee for the Managed Retreat in the U.S. Gulf Coast Region study’s first regional workshop. The workshop will be held on June 8, in Houston, TX, from 10 a.m. CT until 3:45 p.m. CT and on June 9 in Port Arthur, TX, from 5:30 p.m. CT until 8:30 p.m. CT.
The NASEM committee will hear from residents and local decision-makers of the greater Houston metropolitan area throughout the day on June 8 about experiences with mandatory and voluntary buyout programs, local decision-making, and public engagement on these issues. The committee will also hear about the implications of equity in the context of displacement and relocation efforts.

For off-site meetings, the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine follow local venue policies. The Hilton North Houston’s policies can be found here. The wearing of face masks and the practice of social distancing is preferred for this workshop. You can keep yourself and others safe by:
- Staying up to date on your vaccinations and boosters.
- Self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms.
- Staying home if you are not feeling well.
- Wearing a mask is not a requirement, but anyone who chooses to wear one should feel free and comfortable to do so.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes.
- Keep your hands clean.
