Buxton Hill Walks

Come join us for a scenic stroll through the beautiful hills local to Buxton, starting and ending at the layby car park at the Cat and Fiddle Distillery on the A537. Enjoy the fresh air, stunning views, and good company as we explore the local hills and trails together.

This route takes us over moorland to Three Shires Head, onto Wildboarclough and ascends through farmland to Shutlingsloe, the 'Matterhorn of Cheshire'. From he we will descend to Clough House and again up onto moorland, returning to our start point.

The car park can be reached on by public transport, catching the 58 bus from Buxton. There will also be a pickup/dropoff at The Zink Project in central Buxton at 930am, returning at approx 1500pm. We will return to Zink where drinks and cakes are available.If you would like to reserve a lift spot, please email [email protected]. Places are limited.

Itinery:

• Start 945am at the Cat and Fiddle Distillery layby parking (please use this pin on Google Maps to find - https://maps.app.goo.gl/bKUcYAQFXg4Wys7m9) for briefing, walk to start at 10am.
• If you are on foot, a lift is available from The Zink Project at 930am - please email [email protected] if you would like to do this.
• Finish approx 1500pm at the Cat and Fiddle.

Details:

• This route will follow a well maintained paths and tracks across farmland and moorland. There are some steep ascents and descents and we will cover some rocky ground. This is a hilly route!
• Distance: approx 9 miles/14.5km.
• Elevation: approx 2100ft/640m.
• Level of difficulty: Challenging
• Terrain: Waymarked paths, some bumpy, rocky and boggy. Exposed tree roots. Steep ground and rocky terrain.
• Safety: this walks is led by a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader.
• Please note there are no toilets on this route.
• Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a short lead at all times.

What to bring:

• Rucksack
• Sturdy boots/shoes
• Snacks/any food you may need for the duration of the walk
• A mat or plastic bag to sit on (we have spares if required)
• Water
• Waterproofs and warm layers
• Small first aid kit with any personal Medic*tion if required
