About this Event

Buxton Hill Walks

Come join us for a scenic stroll through the hidden corners of Buxton as part of the High Peak Walking Festival, starting and ending at The Zink Project. Enjoy the fresh air, stunning views, and good company as we explore the local hills and trails together.

Local naturalist and author Mark Cocker will meet us at our first stop, Hogshaw Nature Reserve. This threatened green space is home to over 1000 species of flora and fauna. Despite this, it's at risk of development. Mark will guide us round this vital natural site, highlighting its importance and value for the future.

Leaving Hogshaw, we will head up to Brown Edge and back via Fairfield Common and Ashwood Park. This is a shorter and more gentle route which should give us plenty of time for some well-deserved refreshments back at The Zink Project's Eco-Cafe.

MARK COCKER is a multi-award-winning author of creative non-fiction, a naturalist and a writing tutor. He writes or broadcasts on Nature in a variety of national media and reviews for the Spectator and other publications. In 2025 he began his 38th continuous year as a country diarist for The Guardian and Guardian Weekly and has now written well over 1,000 articles for both papers. As a Buxton resident, he is strongly supportive of the preservation of our precious green spaces.
