We’ll combine our newly learned bushwhacking skills with our backpacking and trip-planning skills to design an adventurous route with lots to see and explore. We’ll plan our stops and remote campsite, but allow for learning, practicing, and improvisation as we explore what’s beyond the hiking crowds.
We’ll travel completely off-trail from start to finish using the skills we’ve learned like map & compass navigation, distance pace counting, orienteering techniques, GPS, and natural navigation to navigate our planned route. Throughout the first day, we’ll talk about key trip planning considerations, risk management techniques, first aid, backpacking gear, pack weight, shelter, and overall backcountry multi-day travel. After spending the night at our remote campsite we’ll have a leisurely start and enjoy the day as we bushwack a new way back. Students will leave this incredibly challenging and rewarding course feeling self-reliant and ready to plan and execute any trek in our area on their own.
Prerequisite: Bushwhacking 2
Minimum Age: 12 years old - the minor(s) and a parent/guardian must all be paid registered participants.
