Bus Tour – Flight 93 National Memorial, Flight 93 Chapel & Quecreek Mine, Western Pennsylvania

Flight 93 National Memorial is the final resting place of the passengers and crew members of Flight 93, who thwarted the hijacker’s attempts on September 11, 2001. The living memorial landscape is built in harmony with nature and includes many features and themes meant to honor the legacy of the 40 men and women and the history of this site. The Visitor Center Complex, Memorial Plaza, Wall of Names, Tower of Voices, and trail networks are meant to connect visitors to the story of Flight 93 while offering a peaceful place of respect and reflection.
Flight 93 Memorial Chapel is a spiritual memorial and perpetual tribute in honor of the Heroes of Flight 93, and all others who perished September 11, 2001.
Quecreek Mine welcomes you to the 7-foot bronze statue right above where it all happened. You will follow the brick path into the building, help yourself to some refreshments, and see a PowerPoint presentation explaining how the accident happened and how all nine miners were brought up out of the mine in a capsule 22 inches in diameter. After the presentation, you are invited to walk around the site and see where the men were found and brought out. Then you come up the steps and into the museum which houses the capsule and the broken drill bit. You can see and hear the miners talking about the rescue on our 78-hour timeline. The museum also displays some coal mining history and some clothing the miners were wearing when it happened over 15 years ago. Then before you board the bus there is a gift shop offering some unique coal jewelry, Bill Arnold's newest book about the rescue, t-shirts, and some other souvenirs. The bus will be waiting right outside the door and you will be excited to talk about this amazing rescue as you head out.
