Burke Mountain’s Recreation Centre is the topic for this month’s NECRA meeting. Will the proposed building meet the needs of the 50,000 people on Burke Mountain? This is less than half the space available at Poirier, for a similar population. and South-West Coquitlam has additional facilities at Maillardville and Burquitlam.
The City has a large acreage to sell in the Partington Village and may be diverting some of those funds to other areas of the city.
Tina Mack, City of Coquitlam’s Manager of Recreation and Cultural facilities, will speak on proposals for the Burke Mountain Recreation Centre, at the North East Coquitlam Community Association’s monthly meeting, at Victoria Hall (3435 Victoria Dr.), at 7 pm, Thursday, December 16th, Plans include a four-lane 25m lap pool and aquatic leisure area, as well as a gymnasium, library, and meeting spaces. An arena may be considered in the future.
Are the library and proposed lap-pool big enough? Do we need the ice surface(s) now? What types of programming are wanted, or needed?
Held at Victoria Hall (Masks required), all Burke Mountain residents are welcome to attend and lend their opinions about this facility which will be an integral part of our community. We only get one chance to do this right. Please come out to make sure our neighbourhood is well served.
Since NE Coquitlam residents have been funding Coquitlam Rec facilities in City Centre, Poirier, Maillardville and Burquitlam, for years, are we being short-changed?

Now is the time to apply pressure and get what we want, rather than what we are presented with, and to examine the City's arguments for this proposal, which will occupy a large proportion of the tiny Partington Village retail area.
