Good afternoon, NAVY POW/MIA, MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE (Aug. 25, 2025) – U.S. Naval Aviator Ensign Eugene Mandeberg, one of four Americans shot down in the last aerial dogfight on the last day of World War II, will be buried with full military honors in Livonia, Michigan, on Sunday, Sept. 14. The burial will take place at Beth El Memorial Park, 28120 Six Mile Road, at 11 a.m.

This identification was accomplished by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency in collaboration with the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL) scientists using Single Nucleotide Polymorphism, a new DNA capture method with enhanced capabilities that marks a significant advancement in DOD’s mission to never abandon those service members lost in past conflicts.
