BULLS: The Tragedy of Phaedra of Crete The mind is a labyrinth. What happens when the past crashes into the present, and reality gives way to both fantasies and nightmares? Experience the answers and more at the Premiere Production of BULLS: The Tragedy of Phaedra of Crete!
Written and directed by Justin John Costello, BULLS takes place during the in the city of Troezen, where Phaexra and her husband, King Theseus, are serving out the remaining time of a voluntarily agreed upon exile. For the past two years, the soldiers of Troezen, led by Prince Hippolytus, have been away at war with the Spartans. Six months ago, Theseus himself vanished from the city, leaving Phaedra alone with only her best friend and nurse Oenone, along with the house slaves. Phaedra’s mind is haunted, not only with growing lust for her step-son Hippolytus, but with something far darker and more dangerous. Upon Hippolytus’ victorious return to Troezen, emotions and secrets are unleashed, setting a tragic path in motion. “BULLS” takes a provocative, raw look at gender politics, power dynamics, and primal nature as characters are trapped in a vortex of lust, madness, and murder. Headlined by Marcie Herman Riebe as Phaedra, Adam Zawatsky as Hippolytus and Peter Feno as Asterion, the minotaur, the company includes Darren Moore, Jonmichael Brennan, Colleen Capponi, Lara Elizabeth Zelinski, Madeline Giardina, Leba Lanton and Natasha Bogutzki.
The Premiere Production of BULLS will take place for three nights only , July 26th and 27th at 8pm, and July 28th at 6pm. Performances will take place at The Olde Brick Theatre, 126 W. Market Street, Scranton. With limited seating, tickets are $20 Cash at Door. For reservations, email [email protected], or message the Lab on Facebook.
