About this Event
Join us for the inaugural talk in the public programme accompanying the exhibition کبھی قطرہ سمندر میں بدل جاتا ہے | A Drop Becoming the Ocean presented by the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Aga Khan University and the Furqaan Ahmed Collection.
In this talk and Q&A, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto will explore his transition from textile artistry to environmental advocacy, with a focus on the Indus River, its endemic species and his community-led conservation initiative Bulhan Bachao. He will examine the plight of the Indus, what it means to him and its place within the cultural landscape of, not only Sindh, but the entirety of the Indus drainage basin: the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He will be accompanied by staff members of Bulhan Bachao, the conservation organization that he founded, who will speak to their community-driven environmental work.
The talk activates the educational and discursive aims of the exhibition کبھی قطرہ سمندر میں بدل جاتا ہے | A Drop Becoming the Ocean, which takes water as a red thread for intersecting conversations on ecology, migration, and colonial histories in Pakistan and South Asia. This unique collaboration between the Furqaan Ahmed Collection and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) at Aga Khan University brings to campus works by internationally acclaimed artists from Pakistan and South Asia including Naiza Khan, Salima Hashmi, Zarina Hashmi, Saba Khan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr., and Lala Rukh.
The talk and Q&A will run from 5–6pm. Following the talk refreshments will be served and you are welcome to tour the exhibition.
NB: Please bring your CNIC card or foreign passport to ensure access to the building.

About the speaker:
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is an environmentalist who was raised between Karachi and Larkana. His proximity to both the Arabian Sea and Indus River drove him to see Pakistan as not simply a geopolitical identity but a unified living body formed by the rivers of the Indus drainage basin. This in turn inspired him to create Bulhan Bachao, an organization dedicated to environmental conservation whose flagship symbol is the Indus River Dolphin.
